Here’s another great Bachelor party from our friend Ben-Jamin Toy
“Adventure Happens”
The groom had connected On Purpose Adventures with the out-of- state best man months earlier. Both he and the groom had busy schedules and they were planning for the out-of-country wedding, so a relaxing guys’ weekend of island camping for the bachelor party seemed perfect.
We had everything planned: from the morning boat taxi by Barrier Island Eco Tours, to the meals, tents, activities (island wide scavenger hunt, camp fire and roasting of the groom). However, two days prior to the father, stepfather, best man, and friends from high school, college and present day coming to Charleston, South Carolina the weather report wasn’t too auspicious for a time of bonding. If the groom wanted a survival training bachelor party adventure, this would have been perfect: overcast and rainy along with an evening temperature in the low 40s.

However, our goal for bachelor parties is to create an environment for an experience so a groom’s family members and friends can get to know each other, share stories about the him and have an adventure they can readily talk about and share the photos of.
So an audible was called. What is there to do in Charleston for 15 grown men on a Saturday when it’s not very warm and the sun isn’t shining? Paintball is an option. A challenge course is as well. Well the challenge course was reserved and the conditions weren’t terribly promising for a fun day of paintball.
Lazertag. The GlowZone in North Charleston provided the perfect way to start the day by getting the blood flowing. Three games of pure chaos ensued. There was a free-for- all game and two team games. There was little strategy, a little cheating and lots of smack talking. It was a great ice breaker for the locals and the out-of-towners.
Straight to the farm we went. We contacted Thane Hollington, owner of Guns & Gold Trading Post in North Charleston about shooting a variety of guns. He was excited at the notion and offered the range on his private land. After three gigantic pizzas were consumed in short order, range and firearm instructions were given and targets were set, nearly four hours of turning money into noise ensued. Some of the weapons fired include: AR15, BFR .500, Mossberg Silver Pigeon 28 gauge, SKS, Tactical 870, M&P 9mm Pro, FNh FNS 9mm, Saiga 12, Judge, 357 Magnum, 10/22. Several of the bachelor party attendees had never shot a gun and became quite comfortable by the day’s end. Others had some experience while a few were former military. Even the military guys had a blast shooting weapons they had never had the privilege to fire before like the BFR .500 Smith & Wesson, the world’s most powerful revolver.
This audible resulted in a touchdown! They guys got to talk, albeit they had to shout from time to time over the banging, and get to know each other and relate stories about the groom. Camping may happen with this group in the future, but everyone was thankful we were ready with a plan B.
